Mitchelton Wines – Driven by Environmental Consciousness

Businesses have the paramount responsibility for protecting and conserving the environment. One of the farms-to-industry businesses which is at the forefront of this effort is that of Australian wine production. These efforts are driven by the fast spreading awareness and consciousness of the environmental concerns. Mitchelton wines, one of the premier wine producers of Australia, is also a participant in this effort from the Australian wines industry.
Michelton wines have undertaken a series of eco-friendly steps in this respect. These include the following:
1. Wastewater management: Wineries produce a good amount of waste water. This waste water requires treatment before it is reused for other purposes. Mitchelton has taken steps with community participation to treat the process for water reuse for irrigation in the vineyards.
Besides the waste water management steps, the winery has also undertaken to recycling of the bottle rinsing water which is used in bottling plants.
2. Promoting the growth of native small plants and grasses in the Goulburn river catchment areas with a view to revegetating these fertile lands.
3. Accreditation for compliance with the ISO 14001 standards. Regular audits are conducted to ensure total adherence to its standards.
4. Completely doing away with the use of synthetic pesticides and other chemicals in the vineyards. In its place, it makes use of the integrated pest and disease control management practices which aim to promote the bio-farming or organic farming practices.
5. Use of recycled packaging materials is another component of this holistic approach. This goes a long way in saving of scarce and exhaustible environmental resources. To this end, it is a member of the National Packaging Convenant which encourages usage of recycled packaging materials for specified suppliers.
6. It makes use of the advanced and high-tech farming practices which ensures optimal usage of land resources for its farming practices. This includes advanced soil monitoring practices for moisture content which determines the need of irrigating the fields. Micro-farming practices ensure optimal usage of resources and high level of efficiency.
7. Advanced composting measures are also being undertaken with the objective of reusing the farm waste again. This has been another dimension of saving costs as well as using bio-fertilizers in farmlands.
The use of sustainable and environment friendly farming practices has helped Mitchelton wines to produce high quality organic grape varieties in its farms. Use of modern technology plays a vital role in farm management and transforming the brand Mitchelton wines.
